Financial Disputes & Decision Advisory

Financial facts. Defensible decisions.

Every consequential financial decision should rest on established fact — not assertion — and hold up when it is tested.

When capital, liability or reputation is at stake, HALD brings senior CFO/CRO judgement directly to the decision — establishing the facts before a position is committed. Assignments are principal-led and typically involve contested financial evidence, transaction economics, liquidity, financial controls or governance-critical decisions in the Netherlands and cross-border European matters.

HALD Advisory is an independent financial advisory firm in Amsterdam supporting counsel, investors and boards in financial disputes, transaction control and board-level financial governance.

Why HALD

Positions designed to withstand scrutiny.

In high-stakes disputes, transactions and governance-critical decisions, the cost of being wrong is measured in capital, liability and reputation. HALD Advisory brings senior CFO/CRO judgement directly to the decision — establishing the facts, and making them defensible under scrutiny.

Every consequential financial decision should rest on established fact — not assertion — and hold up when it is tested. Boards, their advisers and their counterparties are increasingly required to justify decisions to regulators, courts and shareholders. We exist to give them positions that remain defensible under exactly that scrutiny.

About the principal

Aldwin Boers

Founder & Principal · Former statutory CFO/CRO, positively assessed by DNB for those appointments · Banker’s Oath (sworn)

Aldwin Boers is Founder & Principal of HALD Advisory. He advises counsel, investors and boards when a contested financial position, transaction or governance-critical decision must withstand scrutiny.

A former statutory CFO/CRO in regulated financial institutions — positively assessed by DNB for those appointments — Aldwin brings more than 25 years in senior finance and risk leadership, including twelve years as CFO of ABN AMRO Clearing Bank. Through that tenure he maintained uninterrupted clearing operations across 9/11, the 2011 Japan earthquake and the Fortis collapse, delivering unqualified audit opinions throughout, and held dual statutory responsibility for Finance and Risk — an uncommon combination in the Dutch market. He has led finance, capital, liquidity, risk, reporting and governance across Europe, Asia and the Americas.

His work combines operator judgement with traceable financial analysis — clarifying what the numbers support, where exposure sits and what decision should follow. He holds a Master of Accountancy from NIVRA/Nyenrode and works in Dutch and English. Every engagement is principal-led from scope to findings.

Current thinking

HALD Signals

Independent interpretations of developments shaping legal delivery, financial analysis and board-level decision-making.

Counsel ·

Accell — refinancing assumptions meet insolvency reality

HALD perspectiveThe key question is which refinancing assumptions remained supportable as Accell moved into insolvency. HALD can independently reconstruct the financing bridge, test liquidity and downside assumptions, and identify where the case diverged from plan, providing a defensible financial basis for investors, creditors, boards and counsel.

Investors ·

OCI / NNS / Orascom — competing value paths under court scrutiny

HALD perspectiveThe consequential financial question is which transaction path delivers the strongest economic outcome once the alternatives are tested on equivalent terms. HALD can independently establish and challenge the value bridge, underlying assumptions and sensitivities — giving investors, boards and counsel a defensible financial basis for comparing the alternatives.

Boards ·

Grand Metropolitan — valuation and control trigger court intervention

HALD perspectiveThe consequential financial question is how value and exposure should be assessed when ownership, control and financial information are contested. HALD can independently reconstruct the underlying financial record, test competing valuation positions and quantify their consequences — providing a defensible fact base for settlement, transaction and board decisions.

Before you begin

  • Do not include privileged advice, detailed evidence, financial records, models, identity documents, special-category personal data, or information about criminal allegations.
  • Provide party names only, for the initial conflict and independence check.
  • Keep the decision description to one non-confidential sentence: state the question and urgency, not the underlying evidence.

An enquiry does not create an engagement, a duty to act, or an adviser-client relationship. HALD acts only after conflicts are cleared and written engagement terms are agreed. Please read the Privacy Statement, Data Handling page, and Disclaimer before continuing.
